A generic volleyball photograph of mine was published on B92, one of Serbia’s most iconic and widely read national media outlets, to illustrate their coverage of the controversy surrounding Partizan Belgrade’s women’s volleyball team coach Nenad Živanović, whose inappropriate language during a timeout of the eternal derby against Crvena Zvezda sparked a nationwide scandal in February 2026 — drawing reactions from the Serbian Ministry of Sport itself.
Founded in 1992, B92 is a cornerstone of Serbian journalism and one of the Balkans’ most trusted media brands, making this a welcome addition to the ever-growing international reach of my work.
The image used is part of my broader volleyball photography work, developed over several seasons of covering top-level women’s volleyball in Turkey, including matches involving Fenerbahçe Opet, Eczacıbaşı Dynavit, and VakıfBank — three of Europe’s most competitive clubs in the CEV Champions League. Working pitch-side at high-level indoor sports requires a very different technical approach than outdoor football: managing artificial lighting, faster ball movement, and the compressed geometry of an indoor arena all demand precise preparation and fast reactions.
What makes this publication notable is the nature of how editorial media uses sports photography. A well-composed, neutral image of athletes in action can travel far beyond its original context — becoming the visual representation of a news story months or even years after it was taken. This is part of what makes building a diverse and well-distributed sports photography archive so valuable for international media coverage.
B92’s reach across Serbia and the broader ex-Yugoslav media landscape means this image was seen by a large audience with a strong sporting culture and a deep attachment to volleyball as a national sport. It is a reminder that sports photography crosses borders in ways that few other disciplines do.
