About Me

From graffiti and hip-hop culture to professional Sport Photography

Born in Liège, Belgium, with Turkish roots in the Kuşadası and Istanbul region, Burak Baştürk is a multifaceted creative whose journey spans over three decades of visual arts, sport, and image-driven storytelling.

From childhood, drawing became his natural language. His teenage years led him into graffiti culture — his first form of hands-on expression — before he pursued formal training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, specialising in Photography and Advertising. He went on to develop his skills in graphic and web design, accumulating over 27 years of experience in visual design.

A lifelong athlete since the age of nine — basketball, swimming, freeride mountain biking, and finswimming — Burak has built a deep understanding of competitive sport, further shaped by a parallel career as a coach, competition organiser, CMAS International Finswimming Referee, and federation commission member.

It was while photographing his daughters in swimming competitions that he found the perfect convergence of his two passions: sport and image.

Today, Burak works as a freelance photographer and videographer based between Liège and Istanbul, distributing his work through Middle East Images on the AFP and Getty Images Editorial platforms. Holding AIPS press credentials and UEFA and FIBA accreditations, his images are regularly published in the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, BBC, and France Football, among others. He covers the biggest competitions: UEFA Champions League, CEV Champions League volleyball, FIBA championships, cycling races, open water swimming, trail and ultra-trail events.

His approach combines technical precision with visual storytelling, capturing the emotion, effort, and authenticity of sport through competition reportage, athlete portraits, documentary photography, and video — including aerial drone coverage. He collaborates with national and international federations (Turkish Cycling Federation, CMAS, FFESSM, FFSS), clubs, brands, and sports media.

Beyond sport, Burak is committed to environmental advocacy, lending his skills to Ekodosd, a Turkish association dedicated to ecosystem protection and the love of nature (Ekosistemi Koruma ve Doğa Sevenler Derneği). He is fluent in French, Turkish, English, Italian, and Spanish, and operates continuously between Belgium and Turkey.
